When Christopher Columbus arrived on the Dominican Republic\'s shores in 1492, he proclaimed, "There is no island that is more beautiful in the world ". For visitors of the country today, the Dominican Republic definitely represents just that. It is simply a paradise to discover - golden sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, mysterious lush valleys, majestic tall mountains and wonderfully friendly people. At 18,750 square miles, the Dominican Republic is one of the largest islands in the Caribbean. The temperature on the island remains fairly consistent at around 77 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Generally, the whole island is sunny with tropical weather. The change in seasons is determined more by the annual rainfall then by the temperature.

The people of the Dominican Republic are surely some of the friendliest people in the Caribbean, if not the world. This country hosts a multi-racial and multi-cultural society of over eight and a half million people, with three quarters of mixed origin and the other quarter of either European or African descent. Two thirds of the populations live in the cities and the other third live in rural areas. A third of the population is under fourteen years of age and five percent are over 65 years of age. The government or the services sector employs more than half of the working population and about a third are employed in agriculture. The official language in the Dominican Republic is Spanish. Most people involved in tourism understand and speak at least some English, if not other major tourism-related languages, such as German and French. The further outside a tourism region one goes, the more unlikely the people are to speak or understand anything other than Spanish. Learning to speak Spanish is not necessary to visit the Dominican Republic, but learning a few words and phrases will definitely make one\'s visit more enjoyable. The Dominican people are sure to be pleased with any effort made to try and speak their language and are helpful with correct pronunciation and learning more.

With so much ground to cover, you will need to plan an itinerary in order to get the full experience of the island. There is so much diversity of things to see and do on the island from off road jungle safaris, white water rafting, cave exploration, some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Caribbean, deep sea fishing, whale watching in Samana, hundreds of beautiful beaches, surrounded by lush tropical palms and flowers. For the Golfing enthusiasts we have a number of available options. Most famous is the spectacular “Playa Grande Golf Course”. This “Robert Trent Jones, Sr.” signature course is world renowned for its 12 ocean front holes that have earned it the nickname “Pebble Beach of the Caribbean” The course plays along high ocean bluffs and hills that provide breathtaking views of the ocean below. To provide both challenge and enjoyment for a variety of levels, tee choices produce course lengths from 4488 to over 7000 yards. In the opposite direction is the “Playa Dorada Golf Course” designed by the same golf course architect to be an 18 hole par 72 course.
Presently in the planning stages is the Sea Horse Ranch Golf Course. It is being designed in the beautiful rolling hills of the Choco area of Cabarete. The 18 hole par 72 course will challenge even pro level golfers in the beautiful green hills complete with panoramic ocean views.
